Obituary of Richard Langs

LANGS, Richard M. “Dick”, B.Comm.

died peacefully in the morning on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the age of 88. He was the beloved husband of Lenore (née Garinger) for almost 62 years and loving father of Ellen Gray (David), David Langs, and Laura Langs (Steve van der Woerd) and was the much loved grandfather of Isaac, Ronan, Jayden, and the late Sebastian. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was the only son of the late Leonard and Minnie Langs.

Dick was a longtime member of the United Church of Canada, attending Chalmers United Church (where he met Lenore) for many years until it closed, and later, St. Paul’s United Church. He was a much loved teacher for more than thirty years at General Amherst High School, retiring in 1995. Volunteer work was also important to Dick. He volunteered at both the Capitol Theatre and Windsor Goodfellows.

He was born, raised, and grew up in Windsor. He and his family made many years of wonderful memories of summers vacationing at Pinery Provincial Park, his favorite place. He also loved music, particularly jazz, and played the vibraphone.

According to his wishes, he will be cremated and, in lieu of a funeral, there will be a celebration of his life. Due to the current health crisis, the date for this celebration cannot be fixed at this time, and there will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may make memorial donations to the Windsor Goodfellows or the Capitol Theatre through Windsor Symphony Orchestra either directly or by contacting Reid Funeral Home and Reception Centre, 87 Maidstone Ave. E, Essex, Ontario (519-776-4233). Family and friends are invited to share their memories online at
